Engineer, Senior Environment Health & Safety
SUMMARY
The Sr. EH&S Engineer (Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Engineer), is recognized as an expert both within the Company and outside the Company in the Environmental Health & Safety field. The Sr. EH&S Engineer, formulates and recommends technical direction for processes and equipment required, for all Environmental Health & Safety matters. Coordinates the development of health/safety objectives, and related continuous improvement programs for the Company. The Sr. EH&S Engineer, develops training programs and conducts training as needed. Responsible for coordination of all compliance issues related to State Environmental Health & Safety requirements, such as California Proposition 65, CALOSHA and Federal OSHA laws. The Sr. EH&S Engineer is trained and knowledgeable in the requirements of ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 standards, and acts as a liaison for all ISO/OSHAS (EH&S) related issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Responsible for developing and maintaining all company procedures associated with EH&S and compliance to Airframe Manufacturers requirements.
2. Coordinates the monitoring and testing of environmental factors such as fire drills, chemical spills, air quality, chemical use/exposure, recycle programs for WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment), hazardous chemicals disposal, and other environmental and safety matters.
3. Establishes lesson plans for employee Environmental, Health & Safety training, and teaches/creates specialty training classes, such as new employee EH&S training, Chemical Awareness training, CPR, etc.
4. Coordinates the utilization of external suppliers for specialized training and reviews the content and quality of such contracted courses.
5. Ensures that the processes for flow down of EH&S requirements to suppliers are developed and maintained.
6. Stands as the focal point with all outside agencies in environmental compliance issues, such as compliance audits and specialty measurement matters.
7. Responsible for developing and maintaining the Company EH&S Continuous Improvement Programs (which include detailed job risk and environmental analysis) and ensures EH&S policies are included in all product designs.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidate must have thorough understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental practices and regulations. Have exceptional communications and leadership skills, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office skills and knowledge (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.). Experience in training and teaching would be preferred.
Knowledge of facilities operations as it relates to air quality, ground water contamiation, storm water run off, safety (i.e. OSHA), etc.
Ability to create and administer EH & S training programs
Knowledge of current regulatory (Fededral, State, and city) requirements as it relates to safety and environmental requirements. Proven leadership in developing, administering and maintaining EH & S programs
Working knowledge and past experience in ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001
