Tax Manager

Job Summary:
Responsibilities include: Managing all daily activities associated with the accurate, complete, and timely
preparation and filing of various tax reports and returns. Managing, researching and concluding on tax
implications of new business activities, transactions/events, agreements/contracts, etc. Developing monitoring and
reporting mechanism to keep senior management abreast of current tax developments and potential reforms to
existing tax laws . Ensuring appropriate support for SOX 404 compliance efforts. Managing relationships with internal and external auditors. Managing and reviewing work of Tax staff.

Essential Job Functions:
Manage the internal tax function activities in an accurate, complete, and timely manner, including, but not limited to the preparation of Form 1099-MISC forms, federal income tax returns, federal annual reporting returns, state annual reports, state unclaimed property returns, state sales/use tax returns, personal property returns, real property questionnaires, review and reporting of taxable fringe benefits as well as the the accurate capture and reporting of 1099 miscellaneous items. Manage the tax calendar and ensure that it reflects all required tax compliance activities and that all activities are performed in a timely manner.
Manage research of the tax implications of new business activities, transactions/events, agreements/contracts, etc. and document appropriate conclusions.
Develop monitoring and reporting mechanisms to keep senior management abreast of current tax developments and potential reforms to existing tax laws and assess impacts on FINRA and subsidiaries especially as they relate to sales/use tax, property tax, and 1099 miscellaneous reporting. Develop related memos, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
Ensure appropriate support for SOX 404 compliance efforts. Responsible for reviewing standard operating policies and procedures that provide for a sound internal control environment and promote consistent levels of accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in work products.
Manage relationship with internal and external auditors as it relates to Tax area, providing leadership and planning for audits, coordinating the completion of fieldwork with auditors by ensuring timely responses to inquiries and providing requested documentation, and ensuring prompt implementation of management's decision in response to internal/external audit recommendations.
Manage and review work of Tax staff for internal and external reporting purposes. Identify areas for process improvement and initiate action plans.
Ensure appropriate response to internal and external customer inquiries and requests for information with prompt turnaround and resolution.
Manage the relationship with the Technology support group in the development, testing, and implementation of Tax applications. Work with staff to identify enhancements or fixes needed to resolve functional problems or create efficiencies. Assist staff in understanding new applications and provide training as needed.
Perform special projects and ad hoc reporting/analyses as requested.

General requirements :
Bachelor of Science Degree in tax, accounting, finance or equivalent.
CPA preferred.
Minimum 5-7 years of tax experience, with a minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
Not-for-profit/tax-exempt organization experience, including 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(4) organizations a plus. Demonstrated tax expertise and knowledge of tax accounting pronouncements as well as tax processes, systems, internal controls.
Familiarity with corporate governance matters.
Strong research, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to manage and develop staff in a team-oriented setting.
PeopleSoft financial system experience preferred. Proficiency in Windows environment (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
