Engineering Manager - Aerospace
Core Responsibilities: Design and develop processes and products to meet all customer contractual, program,design and quality requirements.
Manages the review of the design (Advanced Product Quality Planning), manufacturing and test documentation to ensure that an applicable contract, program, design and quality requirements are met.
Provides technical and advisory support to the production area to ensure development of products in the manner that matches customer expectations. Provides interface and support to customer product concerns to facilitate responsiveness to customers.
Applies knowledge of specialized processes, machine capabilities and material properties to determine how requirements can be satisfied. Develops product costs, manufacturing lead times, and then prepares estimates in response to requests for quotations
Direct and manage all engineering related activities including manufacturing process improvements,preventative efforts, capacity studies and facility management.
Work with internal departments and external suppliers to evaluate, develop and implement new manufacturing processes to advance manufacturing technology and build engineering competency. Provide technical support/direction to product and process engineers.
Develop, drive and implement cost, quality and productivity improvements via key engineering initiatives.
Champion management decisions regarding operational excellence initiatives,equipment/product/process improvements. Set and maintain appropriate staffing levels and support to drive results and make impact. Identify and share best practices, process solutions and technologies. Actively participate in the implementation of lean initiatives and support safety and labor relation initiatives.
Qualifications:
Should have four to six years plus of progressive engineering experience in an automotive parts or high volume manufacturing environment. Prior supervisory experience necessary.
Strong analytical and project management skills are necessary and experience with lean manufacturing principles is required.
Past success leading change in a manufacturing environment. Solid business/leadership skills with demonstrated accomplishments. High integrity with a passion for customer service excellence. Ability to adapt based on changing customer requirements.
Respects individual differences and utilizes the diverse thinking and contributions of all. Empowers others to achieve desired results and holds them accountable. Seeks ideas for continuous improvement and change; suggests and encourages innovative ideas to improve or enhance products and processes. Clear understanding of lean principles and successful implementation techniques.
Ability to multi-task and successfully function in a fast-paced, cross-functional manufacturing environment.
Must possess strong leadership skills and excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
Education Requirements: A four year degree in engineering, preferably in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering. An advanced degree in engineering preferred.
Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma certification a definite plus.
