Mechanical Engineer
About the Job
Position Title:
Mechanical Engineer
Company Overview:
Optiwind is a 4 year-old wind energy start-up on the move. Started in 2007, we have developed a brand new wind turbine technology perfect for schools, factories, retailers and others who are looking to generate and use their own renewable energy. Less expensive than the grid without any government subsidy and already achieving significant customer interest, Optiwind is poised to become a major global player in this multi-billion dollar market.
We are currently completing our development stage and will soon be launching our products into this rapidly growing market. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Director, this newly created position will play a key role in the design and development of components and systems (electro-mechanical and structural) for current and next generation wind turbine products utilizing analysis, computer aided design and hands on testing.
Position Responsibilities:
· Drive conceptual design and modeling of the components and systems within the wind turbine utilizing materials and components that are commercially available today.
· Perform structural, fluid pressure drop and fluid force calculations.
· Maintain consistent CFD and FEA analysis, design, prototype fabrication and test practices to verify design quality and manufacturing readiness for both 100kw and 300kw turbine systems.
· Interact with designers and other in-house engineering personnel to prepare test specifications and ensure if design meets functional and performance specifications including: design for performance, design for manufacturing, design for cost, and design for reliability.
· Maintain balance between the support of conceptual modeling and detail design requirements for next generation Optiwind products and the sustaining design improvements and modifications of existing wind turbine product designs.
· Develop relationships with key suppliers to develop hardware and optimize design parameters and assembly processes for this complex product.
· Work effectively cross-functionally with suppliers, vendor engineering, purchasing and manufacturing in support of product cost, quality and delivery schedules.
Key Qualifications:
· Mechanical Engineer possessing a 2-5 years of “hands on” product design and project management experience combined with successful product development/commercialization of a technology based product which is electro-mechanical in nature. Innovative industry experience preferred.
· The Mechanical Engineer must have a general knowledge and experience with various manufacturing processes (plastics, sheet metal, stamping, casting, NVH testing, welding).
· Exposure to system integration involving complex structural and/or fluid mechanics highly desirable.
· The candidate of choice must have experience designing and testing components and assemblies from concept to market. Work experience in a high volume, tight tolerance, shortened lead-time product cycle is preferred.
· Knowledgeable of 3D CAD and Modeling tools (SolidWorks preferred).
· Machine design and/or assembly experience preferred.
· Ability and desire to travel up to 10-15% of the time.
· BS Engineering (MS Preferred) in Mechanical, Aeronautical or related Engineering discipline.
Compensation:
Highly attractive compensation package that includes strong base salary, bonus potential, stock options, health benefits, 401(k) plan with company matching, generous holiday/vacation plan, employee referral bonus plan.
