Unit Counselor
Job Title:Unit Counselor
Community Education Centers(CEC) is a leading provider of residential and outpatient community corrections programs. Working in over 100 locations across the U.S., we provide a foundation of support to change addictive and criminal behaviors and effectively prepare our residents for community reintegration. With programming that encompass assessment, drug and alcohol education, and education services for juvenile and adult populations. We are redefining effective means to reduce recidivism.
Performs moderately complex substance abuse counseling work. Work involves planning, coordinating, and implementing substance abuse counseling activities, and coordinating with other facility and agency personnel, offender family members, and with community organizations to ensure the maximum utilization of resources available for treatment and rehabilitation. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, within the parameters of the Program's Operational Plan, the rules of the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Program (Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 140, Subchapter I) and the rules of the Institution.)
Essential Functions:
A. Provides substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training; and participates in educational
groups in compliance with Substance Abuse Treatment Program standards, guidelines, policies,
and procedures.
B. Interviews and evaluates offenders concerning program participation and compliance.
C. Maintains offender records and other records regarding services provided to include workload
statistics; and compiles data and submits reports and related documentation.
E. Implements follow-up and after care plans for offenders that participate in the program prior to their
release; and disseminates information on community resources for offender placement in follow-up
treatment.
F. Completes intakes, ASIs, and treatment plans.
G. Completes individual counseling sessions and maintains documentation for a caseload of 25
offenders.
H. Administration and knowledge of approved assessment instrumentation, with particular
reference to the ASI and IPASS, and integration of results into resident client treatment plan.
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or GED equivalent and current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (CI) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) or Certified Criminal Justice Professional Associate (CCJP-A) by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals.
Applicants who meet the requirements listed above, but do not have the required Chemical Dependency Counselor license must obtain LCDC licensure within five years from date of registration as a Counselor Intern. Continued employment is contingent on obtaining licensure or certification.
