The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is the nation's premier destination of heroism, adventure and fun, hosting over 750,000 visitors from around the world each year. Through the museum's exhibits, educational programming and special events, visitors experience her rich history of service and learn about the humanity behind the hardware.  The Intrepid Museum is gearing up for the re-opening of our new and improved museum complex for 2008.  This is a great opportunity to be a part of our exciting team! 

 

The Intrepid is looking for a Director - Grants Administration & Management. This Director is responsible for managing capital and operational grants, including grant writing, contracting, compliance, and administration and reporting.  The Director will also assist the CFO in audits of grants by the grantor and the independent auditors as well as in the development and compilation of grant budgets, business plans and documentation for potential donors and other fundraising activities. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Monitoring museum compliance with all government and private grant requirements and developing new tracking and reporting mechanisms as needed.Ensuring proper grant procurement procedures are followed.Preparing documentation and support for overhead allocation, soft costs and indirect costs.Preparing and submitting documentation for payments in accordance with grantor requirements.Tracking and reporting of spending against budgets.Creating spreadsheets for the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum’s budget, including any presentation necessary for donor confidence, and updating as appropriate for use in both federal grant and corporate sponsorship procurement activities.Supporting other department’s efforts in research of grant and corporate sponsorship opportunities and advising museum departments in the development of programs.Writing grant proposals and coordinating with department heads on the development of grant proposals and budgets.Having the ability to communicate museum needs to external agencies and grant requirements to museum departments.Identifying and resolving grant compliance, reporting and/or procurement issues.Ensuring all grant reports are filed in a timely manner.Preparing for annual outside audit with respect to grants.

 

Candidate must have a BS in accounting, finance or relevant discipline.  A minimum of 3-5 years experience in grant administration and/or management is required.  The ideal candidate will have a familiarity with non-profit accounting standards and with grant nomenclature and reporting standards. Qualified candidates will have an ability to understand, develop, and document processes, policies, and procedures.  Strong leadership skills, demonstrated track record of high ethical character, strong critical thinking and problem solving skills are also required.  The candidate must be highly organized, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and have strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels in the organization.  Proficient computer knowledge is also required.
