User Experience Director

Journal Interactive seeks a dynamic User Experience Online Design Director. You must have a passion for innovative, big-idea, results-oriented interactive work. We are quickly building a strong digital team here at Journal interactiveand we need a collaborative, vibrant leader to lead a growing design team responsible for the online user experience across the Journal Communications network of sites. This position reports directly to the SVP/GM for Journal Interactive and will widely influence the direction and experiences of online users visiting our 75+ broadcast and publishing sites across the country. The primary role of the User Experience Online Design Director is to lead the online user experience team made up of online ad designers and web project designers in designing and developing smart and usable news and informational Web sites. You will be charged with driving UI standards and online visual designs including: site layout, typography, visual concept, illustration, iconography and Flash development across our network or Sites. You will be expected to capture the essence of our Journal Communications brands online and extend them to various new interactive forms. You will also be well-versed in web analytics and can speak to navigational styles and creative approaches that deliver results against specific strategic objectives for our company

Responsibilities
Execute the creation of visually stunning and immersible interactive experiences for our network of media news and entertainment sites. Work with the creative team, editorial, sales, marketing and product development to create strategically relevant online solutions that enhance our many brands and its positioning Help lead and motivate internal web project teams to achieve their given objectives and goals, also provide leadership throughout the development process to ensure the integrity of the creative and strategic vision of each project is met Set team priorities and effectively manage time as a player and a coach. Manage a seven-person web design team. Understand how creative and content decisions affect timelines and budgets Identify and assess available resources a manage team workflow and client expectations Communicate clearly and effectively Take ownership in projects and be held accountable for the ultimate success of each delivery Play a pivotal role on project delivery teams which include business and editorial strategists, project managers, marketers, information architects, and site developers/programmers Guide usability and information architecture development Enhance the creative, results focused work environment and culture we are building, which promote employee growth and pride in work


Requirements
5+ years of Interactive Design experience
Minimum of 3 years direct creative team supervisory experience
Strong knowledge of branding and information architecture
Strong understanding of online/Internet communities
