Principal Supplier Development Engineer to support AP1000

Westinghouse Electric Company Nuclear Fuel, located in Columbia, South Carolina is seeking a Principal Supplier Development Engineer in its Supplier Quality Systems and Development department to support the supplier development of AP1000.The Principal Supplier Development Engineer plays a key role in the tactical integration of business excellence tools into the global supply-base for development of new suppliers for new or existing products for Westinghouse Nuclear Fuels.Major Focus of Position: 1. Assist in the supplier selection process. This will involve performing technical assessments of supplier manufacturing operations and methods, identifying and reviewing high risk processes, and documenting results. 2. Lead and execute new product or supplier qualification projects to assure that all CTQs are met. Qualification will include use of process based tools similar to "APQP." Resolve process qualification and component design issues. Teaming with other functional organizations within GSCM and Nuclear Fuels will be required. 3. Participate on product development, supplier audit and performance assessment and selection teams. This will include application and integration of DFM methodologies, identification of critical process and product characteristics with suppliers and Westinghouse functional organizations.4. Secure predictable material supply and reliable supplier tactical performance by establishing fundamental process metrics, developing robust Control Plans, and by implementing supplier process control relative to process quality and performance standards and metrics. Periodic assessments and input to supplier performance "Scorecards" will be necessary.5. Proactive, continuous improvement of processes and procedures based on "best practices" to GSCM SQSD activities.6. Develop and deploy standardized "best practice" procedures, processes and structures to suppliers. This will include developing the tools, training and coaching suppliers in various practices (e.g., Lean, SPC, capacity assessments, Value Stream Mapping) to improve ability to meet best in class standards.7. Document activities in accordance with company procedures, customer and regulatory requirements. This will include periodic progress reports and presentations to senior WEC staff, suppliers and customers.A successful candidate would be familiar with and/or have experience with the following:*Typically 10+ years experience as a Supplier Performance, Manufacturing or Applications Engineer with a demonstrated working knowledge of supplier qualification and development processes.*Some multi-functional project management and hands-on supplier and product qualification experience. Automotive PPAP implementation experience with a supplier would be acceptable.*Specific areas of experience in casting, machining, stamping, die and tool design and metal forming qualification, metal coating experiences including ion-nitriding, process development, metal and ceramic machining processes, machine shop, and inspection methods experience preferredTravel Requirements:*Candidate will be required to travel to domestic and international sites (50%+)Education Requirements:Bachelors degree in Engineering Westinghouse technology is the basis for nearly half of the world's nuclear power plants.
