DescriptionExciting career opportunity for a Senior Writer/Assistant Editor to join the Loudoun Independent newspaper, in Ashburn, VA under Openband Publications. M.C. Dean, Inc., and its subsidiary OpenBand Publications, is an information technology and new media company with more than 2400 employees with offices in Loudoun County and across the country and the globe.Required Skills

OpenBand Publications, Loudoun Independent, has a position for a Sr. Writer/Assistant Editor to create content for a regional newspaper. The Sr. Writer/Assistant Editor's job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1 Producing news items for print publication. This includes participating as a Senior Member working with the Editorial team to identify the most relevant and timely stories for publication in Loudoun County each week, and preparing complete draft articles for editorial review and approval within consistent deadlines. This also includes providing photos and graphics to accompany news items.

2 Track and analyze current events. This includes the development of local information resources and areas of expertise from multiple sources (Online, print, video, personal) in various areas of local interest to ensure incisive and up-to-date reporting.

3 Identify prospective news items and features. Manager members of the Editorial team to develop, maintain, and consistently update the editorial calendar to determine features and articles of interest. Provide insights and recommendations in the process to improve the content, quality, and readership of the editorial content.Required Experience

The job qualifications are:
1 B.A. (Journalism or related field preferred) and 8+ years relevant work experience.
2 Excellent written, verbal and editing skills.
3 Demonstrated interest on issues related to local region.
4 Attention to detail and good analytical and reasoning ability.
