Mammography Tech

JOB SUMMARY

Take radiographs of patient's as ordered by the physician, to assist physician in diagnosing diseases and injuries.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.            Perform mammography screenings

    2.            Operate x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body, under the supervision of physician.

    3.            Select proper film and adjusts x-ray equipment to correct setting for each examination. Position and instruct patient, and determine the proper technique for each radiograph.

    4.            Arrange, attach, or adjust immobilization and supportive devises, such as sandbags, sponges, and ankle boards to obtain the precise position, prevent patients from moving, and lessen discomfort. Adjust lead shield to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to x- ray.

    5.            Position x-ray equipment at proper distance and angle from patient's body to present clear and undistorted view and adjusts cone to direct concentration of rays on specified area. Repeat exposure procedure from slightly different angles as prescribed by physician.

    6.            Prepare all x-ray film for processing. Develop film by automatic processing. Refer radiographs to outside diagnostic radiologist for reading.

    7.            Log patient in x-ray logbook. Type flash card and make an identification card for all new patients.

    8.            Make all necessary copies of x-ray reports and distributes accordingly.

    9.            Maintain department filing system of x-ray jackets and film.

10.            Compile monthly x-ray reports and forward to Medical and Executive Directors.

11.            Clean and maintain x-ray equipment.

12.            Prepare and update guidelines for use of equipment, taking x-rays, etc.

13.            Attend appropriate continuing professional education sessions, authorized by the Medical Director.

14.            Perform other job related duties, as may be assigned.

EDUCATION. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of a formal radiologic technology training program. A minimum of two years experience in a clinic or hospital setting.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy towards patients. Must be able to work independently.
