Responsible for accumulating, recording, preparing and reporting of financial data required for regulatory and management purposes. Provides analysis and interpretation of accounting records and financial statements. Implements changes in accounting policy, procedures and systems support
Responsible for maintaining the integrity of various Balance Sheet accounts and their sub-ledgers and monthly accounting reconciliations within the Fixed Asset, Payroll, Accounts Payable, General Accounting or Cash Management areas of Finance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary areas of focus will include but not limited any of the following and other tasks that may arise and be consistent with skills of this position:
o Fixed AssetsMonthly fixed assets activity (asset additions and disposals) and depreciation expense entries in accordance with company fixed asset capitalization policy.Prepare property tax returnsPrepare various management reports outlining capital expenditures against budget and project tracking.Accounts PayableInvoice processing of expense reports and invoices Commission PayrollPrepaids1099 Processing (annually)
o General Accounting
o Lease Accounting
o Revenue Accounting
o Intercompany
o Reinsurance payable
o Cash Management
o Bank Reconciliations
o Claims Reconciliations
o Escheatment reporting
o Within all areas of Finance
o Book daily transactions into various worksheets, prepare journal entries and maintain monthly Balance Sheet account reconciliations.Maintain and update filing so that documentation is easily retrievedJournal Entry preparation and entryAbility to manage and train associates in all aspects of assigned accounting record maintenance, and financial statement preparation.Manages and/or participates in special projects/assignments as directed by senior management Assist with identifying and researching variances for both balance sheet and income statement Reviews and analyzes financial statements and supplemental data for external and management reporting purposes. GAAP and/or STAT accounting principles, practices and procedures, and insurance/financial products regulatory requirements. Specific knowledge of such subjects as investments, tax, property/casualty, and/or subsidiary accounting and financial analysis desirable.Ability to analyze and solve accounting problems, interpret financial statements and data, analyze legal requirements, examine and monitor accounting cycles and flows, and review general ledger entries and audit work papers and schedules.Works under direct supervisionErrors can cause delay, expense, and/or disruption to the accounting close process.
Education/Experience:
Required:
The candidate MUST have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with 1-5 years of general accounting experience and broad knowledge of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP), practices, and procedures.
o Must have strong attention to detail with good analytical skills
o Excellent oral and written communication skills
o Strong PC skills and familiarity with Microsoft’s Office Productivity Suite (including strong Microsoft Excel skills)
o Must be able to handle multiple activities successfully.
o Must be team oriented and able to work for multiple people
o Experience with month-end closes, general ledger, and various accounting processes to include cash reconciliations, fixed assets, accounts payable, payroll and general accounting.
o ACCPAC accounting system a plus
