Accounting Manager Summary
Our client, a non-profit organization in the Pasadena area is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their team!
The Accounting Manager will develop and implement policies, systems and procedures for budgeting, auditing, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll, assuring timeliness and compliance with established accounting practices and pertinent laws and regulations. Reporting to the Assistant Executive Director, he/she supervises the accounting staff and serves as staff to designated Board Committees. Our client is a community-based, 501(c)3 non profit agency serving homeless and low-income persons in Pasadena and West San Gabriel Valley.
Essential Accounting Manager functions include: Supervise accounting staff in day to day functions (payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, and grants) to ensure accuracy and proper internal controls.Develop accounting policy and procedures: Evaluate computerized systems and cost allocation plans. Prepare monthly financial reports.Supervise month-end and year-end financial closing. Monitor annual risk management inventory. Prepare and monitor budget, consulting with Asst. Executive Director, for Board of Directors' approval. Ensure appropriate record-keeping and reporting as required by accepted accounting standards and private and government funding agencies. Supervise annual financial audit as liaison with auditors. Prepare budgets for grant proposals and financial reports for grantors; supervise government audits. Oversee internal accounting controls for client savings account, social work account, social work petty cash account, and representative payee account. Oversee processes involving check requests and procurement, employee expense reimbursements, approval of vendor invoices and other accounts payable, petty cash, and daily cash receipts; serve as liaison with major vendors. Assist the Human Resource Manager in areas of compensation and benefits planning. Serve as staff and make presentations to Board Audit, Endowment and Finance Committee.
Schedule: This is a full-time 40 hour per week position with occasional evening meetings and travel.
Essential Accounting Manager Skills & Characteristics
Candidates must meet a minimal of the following criteria. Candidates will be tested on Excel and QuickBooks.Non profit experience is a mustB.A. in Accounting5-7 years progressively responsible accounting supervisory-management experience in non-profit organizations, or equivalentDemonstrated excellent analytic, organizational, interpersonal, decision-making, computational, written and oral communications skills, including comfort speaking to groups and good judgment and tact dealing with people from all walks of lifeExperience with grants, grant proposals, etc.Audit experience is a strong plus!EXCEL and QUICKBOOKS: Candidates will be tested on EXCEL and QUICKBOOKSProficiency in both systems is necessary to be considered for this opportunity. Position requires attention to detail, ability to gather, analyze and synthesize information, and advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Quick Books, and payroll database. Experience with auditorsKnowledge of GAAP and OMP Circular guidelines
