Description
The Junior Accountant is responsible for and performs general accounting functions such as preparing journal entries, work paper preparation, fixed assets, intangible assets, assisting with audit fieldwork for both operational and financial audits, reconciling and balancing general ledger accounts, researching and correcting account discrepancies, and other general accounting tasks as assigned. This position requires 5-10 hours of overtime per week during period closes.
The Junior Accountant is part of an accounting team, which currently consists of an Accounting Intern, A/P Clerk, A/P Manager, Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Controller and CFO. The Junior Accountant works directly with and reports to the Assistant Controller at Health Benefits Direct Corporation.
Job Responsibilities
Assisting in audit fieldwork for both operational and financial audits by:Creating supporting work papers and schedulesPosting monthly, quarterly and yearly accrualsResponsible for reconciling and balancing the following G/L Accounts:Fixed AssetsIntangiblesOther B/S accounts as assignedResearching and resolving account discrepancies within the income statement.Responsible for monthly journal entries to:Fixed AssetsIntangiblesOther B/S accounts as assignedPreparation of Annual State filings for all companies in all applicable states.
Position Requirements
1. BS Degree in accounting with up to 1 year of professional accounting experience.
2. QuickBooks or other general ledger experience preferred (not required)
3. Strong Excel skills required
4. Microsoft Word skills required
5. Strong communication skills and personal initiative are highly valued
6. Methodical, detail-oriented, highly analytical
7. Able to prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks, work as part of a team as well as independently
8. Excellent interpersonal and organization skills
9. Self-disciplined with strong work ethic
