Senior Fixed Assets
Rural/Metro Corporation is a leading provider of emergency and non-emergency medical transportation services, fire protection and other safety-related services to municipal, residential, commercial and industrial customers in approximately 400 communities throughout the United States. We are currently looking for a Senior Fixed Assets employee to perform the following:
Responsible for recording, maintenance and retirement of capital expenditures for both the GAAP and Tax Fixed Asset Systems. Responsibilities include performing account reconciliations and closing out the fixed asset general ledger system on a monthly basis. Identifies and implements process improvements. Completes special projects on an as-needed basis. Creates and maintains documentation and flow charting of reporting policies and procedures; the design and testing of internal controls as required by Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; and the preparation of schedules to be included in the Company’s Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
Essential Functions:
Determine proper accounting treatment of fixed asset acquisitions, retirements, and transfers according to established accounting practices and procedures
Inputting and maintaining the fixed asset system both for accounting and tax
Preparation of the monthly capitalization and depreciation journal entries
Researches, analyzes, and prepares reports on fixed assets including additions, disposals and depreciation for Financial Reporting, Tax and Audit purposes
Reviews Accounts Payable postings to the GL for fixed asset related purchases for accuracy including reclassifications and adjustments
Directs periodic inventories of fixed assets
Participating in the monthly, quarterly and annual close and audit process
Works with the regional CFOs to understand the variances from one accounting period to another
Works closely with the Accounting Manager to resolve GL discrepancies and variances
Maintains knowledge of applicable GAAP, FASB, and IRS pronouncements
Accumulate and maintain accurate reports and reconciliations for audit purposes
Assist Accounting Manager in special projects as needed.
Requirements:
Key qualifications include a minimum of 3 years experience in a fixed asset reporting or comparable role
Strong understanding of US GAAP; computer skills, including Excel, JD Edwards or other large accounting/fixed asset software; organizational and analytical skills; communication skills (oral and written) and focus on problem identification and resolution
Ability to work and function both independently and within a group setting
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and assignments and consistently meet deadlines
Must be able to consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness a must
Must be honest, ethical and uphold company values.
Education Requirements:
Degree in Accounting and CPA candidate preferred
